Terms
These are the terms of our engagement letter, which you read and sign in your account before we act for you. Version 2026-11-draft-4.
Who we are
Pavlova Tax ("we"). We are supervised for anti-money-laundering by HM Revenue & Customs and act as your agent with HMRC through our Agent Services Account. Our registrations are listed at /verify.
What we will do
For each UK tax year you ask us to act on, we will: build a schedule of your UK and overseas workdays from the information and documents you give us; prepare your Self Assessment return, including the residence pages (SA109) with the Overseas Workday Relief election and claim; have a qualified tax adviser review it; send it to you for approval; and file it with HMRC as your agent. If HMRC opens an enquiry into a return we filed, we will deal with it for you at no extra charge until the enquiry closes, wherever you live by then.
Claiming without us
You don't have to use an agent. You can make the claim yourself on your own Self Assessment return, using commercial software that supports the residence pages (SA109) or a paper return. HMRC's free online service can't file those pages.
What we will not do
We do not give advice on anything outside these returns (for example investments, pensions, or tax in Australia, New Zealand or any other country), and we do not prepare returns for years you have not asked us to. We will tell you if we spot something that needs other advice.
What you agree to do
Give us complete and accurate information, including every overseas trip and whether you did any UK work on travel days; keep the records behind your workday schedule for at least the period HMRC can enquire; check the return carefully before you approve it; and tell us promptly if anything changes. The return is yours: you remain legally responsible for what it says, and approving it confirms it is correct and complete to the best of your knowledge.
Authorising us with HMRC
To act for you on Self Assessment we ask HMRC for authority. HMRC posts you a letter with an authorisation code, and you give us the code through your account; HMRC does not offer an online-only route for Self Assessment. If the code does not arrive or runs out, we will request another or ask you to sign HMRC's form 64-8. You can withdraw our authority at any time by telling us or HMRC.
Personal allowance
You understand that claiming Overseas Workday Relief removes your personal allowance for that tax year. We will only file a claim where our computation shows you are better off with it, and we will show you that computation before you approve.
Fees
£349 including VAT for the first tax year and £299 for each further year, unless a lower founding-client or referral price was shown to you at checkout. You pay when you approve the return, before we file. If we advise you not to claim for a year, there is no fee for that year. Any refund is paid by HMRC directly to you; we never receive it.
Cancelling
You can cancel within 14 days of signing without giving a reason. If you ask us to start work within those 14 days and then cancel, we may charge for work already done, up to the fee. Once a return is filed at your request, the fee for that year is not refundable.
Identity checks and confidentiality
The law requires us to verify your identity before acting. We may use an electronic identity service to do this. We keep your information confidential, use it only to provide this service and to meet our legal duties, and keep records for at least five years after our relationship ends, as anti-money-laundering rules require. Our privacy notice explains your rights under UK data protection law.
If something goes wrong
Tell us first through the contact form on our website; we will reply within one working day and aim to resolve complaints within 8 weeks. If you are unhappy with our answer you can contact our adviser's professional body. We hold professional indemnity insurance. Our liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount covered by that insurance, except where the law does not allow a limit.
Everything by email
We send our letters, receipts, returns for approval and notices to you by email and keep copies in your account. You agree to receive them that way. Please also set HMRC to contact you by email, and forward us anything HMRC sends you about a return we filed.
Law
This letter is governed by the law of England and Wales. Either of us can end it by email; work already completed and fees already due are unaffected.
